After the changing of the guard, we walked down Constitution Hill road to Hyde
Park. We walked in Hyde Park to Speakers' Corner. We heard speakers talking about a wide variety
of topics, but religion seemed to be the most common theme. This fine gentleman with horns was
discussing cruelty to women in third world countries, blaming it on on the United Nations
primarily.
After Speakers' Corner, we had lunch then visited the National Gallery. The
National Gallery houses over 2000 painting from Western Europe. The paintings, dated from 1260
through 1900, are grouped chronologically. Since Pat has a special fondness for the impressionist
painters, we decided to start with the East Wing (1700 through 1900) first. We covered the
impressionists, especially a large number of paintings by Monet, Seurat and Renoir first.
We started in on the North Wing (1600-1700) and ran out of steam. Our brains were full, I
guess, so it was time to go home.
The next morning, we packed our bags and took the Gatwick Express back
to Gatwick airport.
