Salt Lake 2002 Olympics

Pictures from our trip to the Women's 5 km Free Pursuit event of the Salt Lake 2002 Olympics.

We've arrived at the parking lot of Soldier Hollow, the cross-country skiing venue for the Salt Lake 2002 Olympics. Today's event: Women's 5 km Free Pursuit.

Another photo of the parking lot.

We went to this event with our friends, Bee Lufkin and Peter Hansen. We paused for this photo while we were waiting in line to get through security.

View from just across the bridge near the end of the course.

The forerunners are off!

View of the stadiumm area. The Olympic rings are on the hillside behind the biathalon shooting area.

The first skier.

The second skier, Amanda Fortier from Canada. These photos were taken at the beginning of an uphill stretch about 1 km from the start.

The first US skier, Kikkan Randall.

Another photo of the first US skier, Kikkan Randall. Kikkan is originally from Salt Lake City.

The first Japanese skier, Nobuko Fukuda.

Another US skier, Aelin Peterson. Aelin is from Red Wing, MN.

Wendy Wagner, a Park City resident. This is her first Olympics.

Nina Kemppel, another US skier.

Italian skier, Sabina Valbusa.

Russian skier, Julija Tchepalova.

After the classical half of the race, we headed for the refreshment tent to get some coffee ($3.50. Ouch!) Then we sat on this fence and hay bale. Getting off the snow really helped us warm up.

Those crazy Norwegians!

The start of the freestyle pursuit portion of the race.

A face in the crowd.
